Recent AirSealing and insulation Projects: Wrentham, MA

The owner of this gorgeous post and beam home said the heating costs were well out of the expected range and the drafts were uncomfortable.  Baseline blower door and infrared testing showed lots of air leaks behind the vertical corner posts and at the transition from wall to cathedral ceiling.  It turns ouPhotos below.

Old meets new: This 19th century church upgraded to heat pumps and now I'm between a rock and a hard place (literally) tracking down air leaks that are wreaking havoc on their water supply lines.  But the major leaks have been sealed and the heat pump set temperature matches the actual temperature of the affected area.

This relatively tight home still showed cold spots and air leaks through the thermal envelope during the blower door and infrared scanning tests.  Rigid foam board was added under a cantilevered floor and foam gaskets were installed behind switch plate and outlet covers.  Photos below.

Recent Projects: Concord, MA

1950's ranch with raised dormer in the rear.  The first floor exterior walls were uninsulated so we removed clapboard, drilled through the sheathing and dense packed cellulose.  Next week we will finish the kneewall and upper attic airsealing and insulation.  These steps to reduce air leakage and attic sealing are key to a comfortable home.  We prefer doing all insulation the same day, but the homeowner requested we do the walls first so their painter could paint the house.  There's much to see here. Stop those air leaks into the attic!

The exterior wall opens directly into the attic;  we had to cut the floor to seal it up tight.  Solid blocking and spray foam are a great way to seal up the gaps and seal in the savings.
